Hi all, I have been working on the submerged YSE8 Yanmmar on my 26. I'm not a diesel guy and with the assistance of a great mechanic in Stockton Ca, my engine, which was submerged for years? and left to rust for at least 6 years is running like new and I feel fortunate I only paid 600 dollars.
I have found interesting things and wonder if anyone has answers?
The boat is fitted with a blower system which later in time was disconnected. I have hull 245 and I wonder if at some point in it's life it had an atomic 4 and the blower was necessary. During repair the exhaust elbow was cracked and held together with epoxies, tape and glue. Did someone install a blower system instead of just replacing the exhaust elbow. All the exhaust goes out the back as designed now. I wish someone would have kept records. But if you don't even do repairs, why keep records.
I will save the bilge pump question for later

Steve:  I have Hull #270 with the Yanmar Engine.  It also has the blower set up.  Technically not required.

My boat came to me with just one bilge pump .  It is located in the compartment below the lowest step in the forward cabin.

The packing gland on the prop shaft does allow some water into the engine compartment .  Mine seems to allow about 6 drops per minute. I was worried about getting too much water in the engine compartment bilge, but it really is a slow drip.  I have a manual pump which I use to clear out the water.  To get it really dry, would require sponging the last bit of water out.  I'd like to find a way for a pump.

The issue seems to be the very shallow bilge and how to get a pump that will really get down to the bottom.

What is you problem on 245?  I passed through Stockton on Friday, sorry that I wasn't aware of your present progress.  Glad to come by sometime.  Our boats can't be too different.
