I have hull #38, sloop rigged, which has a Mainship serial number but all of the brochures, manuals and invoices with the boat call it a Parker Dawson.  I need a set of measurements to buy new sails.  I have taken measurements from the old sails, but it seems that sail firms require several other measurements from the boat.

I am in Asia for several months and I wanted to pursue getting new sails while here, rather than waiting until I can get back to the boat to take measurements.  I would think that these measurements would have remained relatively constant over model years.

Take a look at any sailmakers web page and you will find most of what you need.  Sailnet.com has such a listing.

Dave made a fantastic new mainsail for just a fraction more than the low cost sails from the far east.

He makes sails for the Gemini and Telstar multihulls.  My main is larger (Longer luff and foot), heavier cloth, has 3 reefs and has a fantastic shape.  It also has a large roach that hits the backstay on every tack.  Dave feels that it helps the boat point better.  I agree, a bit of a pain in very low wind.

Cannot say enough good things about him.  He has the basic measurements for the main, although one small change needs to be made.
(the reefing point needs to be measured carefully, how far away from the mast.) I did not do this carefully and have had to make adjustments.

I have seen some sites that include PD measurements.  In your opinion can they be relied upon?

I will check sailnet.com.  Thanks for the information.
