Hey, this will be fun! Maybe we can set up some class racing! There is a book you will need, "Cruising Guide to San Carlos" by Cunningham. It details the coast between San Carlos and Kino Bay, charts, all the safe anchorages, a must have..To late to start tonight, but I'll put something together! Our boat is #65, May '73.
Here is the link to the book:
http://www.vagabundos.com/shop/crsggdesc.htmlSan Carlos, 250 miles south of Nogalas, AZ. is a nice little resort town. There is a full service marina run by fine people. There is a large dry storage facility where you can leave your boat for an extended stay. Slips, moorings, whatever. The coastline north of San Carlos is spactacular and virtual wilderness, although there are Mexican fishing camps here and there. You can sail accross to Baja if you wish, 80 miles, 18 to 26 hours underway usually. Good weather forcasts are available. A Ham Radio Receiver is VERY helpful. The weather is FINE October through June, then it starts getting pretty hot for most Gringos! January and February are a little cool for swimming, water temperature will be 62-64 then. Now, April 1, water is 70. It will be 80 by May 15. Over 90 by July 15...By June 15, daytime air temperature will be over 100..It's 75-80 now. What will limit your cruising range here is the availability of water. Water and fuel are scarse along this coast...Nothing between San Carlos and Kino, 70 miles apart. You CAN get water at some of the fishing villages, after you learn how to deal with Mexican fishermen! This is the Sonora Desert remember...
More later, Fairwind.
