I will give a little introduction to my boat. She is a 1973 Midship, her previous name was Chibbi Moon which has been changed to XTA-SEA. She has a Viri7 motor and is slooped rigged.

I have just removed the VHF and radio, all the hangers that where in there and one of the wooden steps going into the forward cabin.
Today I reinforced the rudder on the back where it rubs against the frame and on the bottom since it has hit botom a few times to reinforce it.

Some of the things I plan on doing are.
1. Making all the compartments water tight and replace the wooden cover boards with water tight hatchs.
2. beefing up all the rigging by one size along with the lifelines.
3. Mounting a lader on the transom.
4. Installing a permant head and removing the temp. Also putting in a shower, all in the aft cabin. (any ideas on where to put a holding tank?)
5. Putting in a full stove with oven and propane tanks. (still trying to figure a good place to put them so any suggestions welcome)
6. Install new VHF.
7. Want to also build a custom low power consumption computer system with touch screen and has GPS/MP3/DVD and other sailing utilities will also mount a cam to the top of the mast hooked to it. Not sure where I will be pointing it though.
8. Replace all the wood with some kind of plexy or lexan or some other type of plastic.
9. Run new wiring up the mast for lights and vhf.
10. Replace all lighting inside and out with LED lights.
A few other things I want to do but are low on the list are.
Windlass. SSB or Sat fone. propane heater. full instrament system. (wind, speed, depth)

Well put another layer on the rudder. Took out all the windows and started cleaning them. Took off front cast iron bumper thingy because it was broken. Going to see if i can get another one made.
Also I been thinking of beefing up the stern head fitting.
Looks like I might have to replace the Bow Pulpit because its a little bent out of shape but maybe I can bend it back in to place.

Everything besides fiberglass removed from inside. I found about 50lbs of weights on the starboard side of the boat about right in the middle. Any one ever see anything like that?
Also if some one has a pic of the step area of going into the aft cabin it would help me alot.
Also if anyone has a pic of the muffler on an Viri7 motor would be great also.
Thanks.

Wow. They cut that up good. Did you have a wood cabinet with a sink between the berths and against the aft bulkhead? Looks like you have the plumbing for it.

Yes I dont know what they where thinking when they cut it. Yes there was a cabinet with a sink but I took it out and going to replace it with a head and put the sink over it. And put curtins up between the bunks and the middle and also put a place to shower. I seen it before done like that so I think I want to do that since I plan on doing alot of cruising.

Well finaly started working on her again. Today I pretty much striped the engine and cleaned it up. Seems to be working a little bit better now. I am going to try and reduce the wireing but trying to figure it all out. Theres like 35-40 wires going in but only see 5 connected to the motor so going to try and untangle it and see why theres so many extra.
Also put 2 of the 3 aft cabin windows back in and sealed.
Redid the cockpit drain pipeing a bit to make it more efficiant.

Good Luck on your renovations. We just bought a Midship 1973. And starting renovations as well. Needs some help removing the bottom rudder bracket hinge that's screwed to the hull. Do you know if it is bolted through to interior nuts or threaded into the hull itself? Any suggestions? Also want to get keel retraction working again. Apparently cable needs to be restrung? Any experience, ideas?
Thanks,
RobE

On mine the bottom rudder bracket is bolted to the hull as well as the top. But the bottom one is redone and not original when I got it.
