Well!!!! On august 1, 2006 my wife and I purchased a 1976 PD hull # 237
HIN # DCY80237076  (we think we are the forth or fifth owners)
Yup, the one in central Florida with out the keel. Considering that it has a new, never used 9.9 Johnson long shaft electric start outboard an Ezloader tandem axel trailer in good shape with new bearings, wheels and tires and near new North main and 150 jenny, we basically got the boat for nothing. Or part it out and make a nice profit.

I have just finished a mockup of the keel trunk and started the keel proper mockup. The keel will be a NCCA #12 foil section with a 4? chord, the keel itself it will have a 2? steel pipe leading edge and a 1? steel round bar trailing edge and a .125 sheet skin w/ three internal ribs welded up and filled with 1000# of lead, the hanger bracket (yeah, that was gone as well) will be ? SS and a 1? pin. It looks like there was a 3X26 backing plate on the interior side, fortunately I found the winch tucked away in a locker, but, this area is a little gray, the 4? sheave is mounted off angle about 22 degrees which would put the winch off angle also. Is this a correct assumption? I?m also assuming that the winch is mounted to the backer plate with of some size angle that?s bolted or welded to it. If any one has a photo or information about the installation it would be appreciated.

We are taking the restoration in cabin size pieces starting with the aft cabin. Which we have just gutted.
I?m going to Orlando on Wednesday to pick up a sheet of teak plywood to rebuild all of the companionway doors and weatherboards as the plywood has seen better days

The hull is as sound as the day it was built and will start the prep for Awlgrip when the weather cools a little, the deck has a lot of chips and crazing and will need to be painted, but it?s not an overwhelming task

The old inboard engine exhaust system, strut and shaft log are still there, but coming out.

If our motivation keeps up we should be done by Christmas

I just got a Parker Dawson too, and my keel needs serious sandblasting and reinstallation. Your idea for a new keel sounds very interesting, Do you have a ballpark estimate for how much it will cost to make? I would love to come up and see how yours is progessing, I live in Tampa, FL. so we are neighbors of a sort. Can you tell me what your rudder is made of? Mine is missing.

As of now I have $350.00 in to the 1000# of lead that I purchased from a junk yard in Bunnell,Fl, the quotes for the steel sheet and pipe/round bar is $220.00 The welding shouldn't take more than three hours, the local welder get's $50.00 an hour. the hanger box material I havent priced yet this will be 3/8 steel plate and will require about 4 sq/ft. my original estimate of $1000.00 seem realistic. I have also started a mock uo of the keel trunk and the keel as well to prove the system. I found the old winch, however, where the cable attaches to the spool is broken off, I guess this carried away when the keel took the deep six. My plan is to purchase a 12v electric winch from Harbor Freight for $39.00 and get it out of the cabin by  relocating it using some 3/8 steel angle thru bolted to port side keel trunk. the winch also has a hand crank which would be accessable from the port side storade locker just aft of the electricl panel innerads.
Right now the keel is on the back burner as I would like to get the hull and deck painted, the hull sanding is complete and I need to do some repair to the deck. I hope to have the paint work done in the next three weeks.
As far as your rudder goes I can give you the dimentions and a template of the foil section. I think I mentioned that a company called IDASALIOR.com makes replacement rudders out oh HDPE plastic but I don't know if the make one for the PD, two other options would be A: glue up some fir strips the right height and width and shape it with a hand or power plane and give it a fiberglass overlay.
B: find a local surfboard builder to get you a foam blank. shape and glass, albiet, a lot thicker than  board glass would be.
Let me know if I can be of help.
