How do most of you perform that miracle of ancoring in these boats.  My boat has nothing but 2 cleats on the bow.  Has anyone installed a chain locker or know of an elegant bow roller set up.  All ideas are appreciated.  Any advice on this or type of anchor would be great.

When I bought my Dawson the previous owner had installed a bow sprit and stored the anchor under it. He also ran the anchor rode along the port side of the boat into the the storage place in the cocpit and drilled a whole ran the line through into a basket in the sail locker so anchoring is all done from the cockpit. It works very nicely.

My boat has a chain locker built into the bow. It's just a small compartment separated from the V-berth by a plywood bulkhead. It drains into the bilge. Currently, it has a cut-out for access from the V-berth. I plan to modify that with an sealed access port so the smell of the bottom muck stays with the rode. The chain and rode feed into the locker via a small port in the foredeck. The anchor is stowed on a pulpit bracket. I, too, have just two small bow cleats. They're going to be replaced with chocks, and I'll install one beefy bow cleat mounted a few feet back from the bow and centered on the deck. The chocks will hold the line and keep it from chafing. This is the method I've used on my other boats when mounting a roller is not practical. The bracket, chain port, cleat and chocks are all available in any marine catalog. It doesn't work, however, for an all chain rode. Can anyone post a few pictures of how and where they installed bow rollers?

I am also considering putting a small bow pulpit on my boat to accomodate a bow roller.  I was thinking of running it back far enough to accomodate a d-ring to attach a baby stay to at some point in the future.  Does anyone have any pictures of a bow roller on a Dawson, I am not attached to a bowsprit, I just want it to look nice.
