Northern California is 70 degrees today.  This after a month of rain and 50 degree days.  Nights are often in the 30s with some creating Ice on the windshield in the morning.

I've got two projects at home to finish, then I may run the  30 miles to the boat and crawl into the lazarette to check out the steering cable.  Just a little worried that I may get stuck in there.

My usual project buddy is 6 foot 5 and 300 pounds, so don't want to call on him for this.

I have another question:

Anyone out there using any latches to keep the hatch attached?  It seems strange to me that the hatch would just drop onto the opening like it does.  I would hate to lose it during a wipeout but am having a hard time finding a way to attach the hatch to the boat.

My boat has just a simple mechanism to use a padlock and works quite well.  I always keep it latched when trailering as I had the hatch blow off one time at 50 mph. By chance my mechanic to whom I was towing the boat for repairs, came along and found it.  I lost the bimini for my power boat that way as well.

Not a bad idea to have it secure in the event of a knockdown as well, the hinges that hold it down in back on my boat are pretty wimpy.

How is your hatch coming along?

Great thanks.

I have the core installed (see previous link post) and glassed.  Tomorrow, I am going to make some gelcoat putty and fill some blemishes.  That should not take long.

From there, I will take measurements off the rear hatch to make the mold and should have photos of that process once things move along.

How are your projects going?
