Was out working on the boat at the mooring yesterday, and noticed some water in the sink.  Turned the valve underneath, only to find water spurting everywhere.  Shut it off and thankfully it stopped.  Upon inspection I noticed that the the top half of the ball valve had broken, due to frozen water in the line this winter.

Note to self: Always leave all thru hulls open for the winter!

Will have to pull the boat and replace the valve, and probably the thru hull.  This is a challenge as the thru hull sits right on top of the trailer bunk.  The last time I tried to get at it,  I was able to pull the boat out of the water pulled over by a halyard.  Had to do it from the underside though as I could not pull it far enough the other direction.

Paying dues.

rob,

a 3" hole saw can remedy the thru hull issue.  First drill a small pilot hole from inside the boat, then through from the trailer.  All told, all is well afterward. I replaced the crap-for-drains with a garbard drain plug to reduce costs.   Planning on using a bucket for the ice+beer combo due to the insulated icebox.  I thought you lived where winter does not visit?   Open the valves.

replying to your own post is lame.

So, now that that is over, I forgot you were in Sturgeon Bay.  Hope all is well and that we meet in the non-ACSCII form at some point.

Cheers.
