New port lights
All of the Plexiglas on my 1976 PD hull # 237 was crazed, scratched or discolored, I look ever where for new but came up cold, I decided to see if they could be rebuilt, I cut one end where the seam was and then tried to remove the gasket material in one piece, no way I was going to try and reuse it, next, using a sharp knife (hawks bill flooring knife) I cut/pried the glass away from the frame then pulled one corner over top of the glass and slid it our, go easy here.
. Using the old glass as a template cut new. Leaving the protective paper on except for a 3/8 inch around the perimeter, then lightly sand the exposed area. Also was not able to find new gasket material, so I took rubber screen spline .187 I and worked it into the groove and came back and put in a bead of caulking. After the caulking sets where the seam gap is put a little Bondo on and sand smooth and paint. Oh one aside, I was able to reuse the gasket material in the aft cabin sliding port light
For about $120.00 I got new tinted glass port lights that look super and are the piece de resistance on my restoration project.
You could use Lexan, but I don?t think the cost is justified.
Happy to say, no leaks.
Rub rail
I found a company in Canoga Park CA called Wefco Rubber mfg. co,
The phone # is 818 886 8872, speak with Robin, these were great folks to deal with.
The profile is # 0012 G1 and comes in white or black and will take a few weeks to extrude for you.
The fit as extruded is acceptable, however, with a little trimming on the backside lips a better fit may be had. I can't find my sales slip but i think the cost was about $200.00
Look at their website for all of the products they make.
