Does anyone know where on the boat that sacrificial zincs, might be mounted.  I have never seen any, and it seems like something that should be attended to.

Hi bob
If you have an inboard engine a zinc should be on the prop shaft, an outboard engine should have one as well, one should also be on the keel, like a 3 inch round that has a 1/4 fastening bolt. then there is the bonding system that connects all of the thru hull fittings, engine, battery(s) deck fuel fill and chain plates with #6 AGW wire,

ZINCS !

I've got some research to do.  I have not found a zinc on the keel, although I do have one on the propshaft.

If anyone has this keel zinc, please share its location so we can all check this.  On the trailer, I can see no zinc or hole for attachment.

The wiring visible near the panels is well done on this boat. The previous owner did a nice job of rewiring after the boat sank several years ago.  I have not been able to crawl around in the lazarette to see where all of it goes.

While on this subject, keep in mind the KEEL PIVOT PIN which is prone to corrosion.

I was horrified when I saw the keel pivot pin that was taken from this boat by the previous owner.  Sorry that I can't find it to show to you all.

My plan is to pull and redo the keel and pins at the end of this season.

Somehow, I suspect the the original wiring would not meet todays requirements. I recall that over the years there have been many discussions about the common ground and boats may  have have been build to differing electrical standards.

As far as lightning is concerned, I'll also be surprised if my boat is protected.  Here near San Francisco, Thunderstorms are pretty rare although forecast for tomorrow.  The only time I've seen one on the water was when passing under the Golden Gate Bridge from seaward. The storm was small and passing over Alcatraz and continuing East ahead of our path.

When I take this boat to the East Coast,  I'll make sure that lightning protection has been taken care of.

I just went to West Marine and bought a zinc shaft collar 3/4" for my Vire.  I guess the newest material for fresh water is magnesium, but they didn't carry one.  Quick and simple install.  Done.

I bought another to bolt onto the keel with two bolts.  Will have to wait, we just got another 3" of snow.

I just remember a zinc being on the shaft. dont remember one on the keel. I think my electrical system might have had some sort of zinc it was attached to somewhere if I remember right but its been a while.

I have a zinc on the starboard side of my keel.  It mounts with two bolts into the keel.  The zinc is double bow shaped and is nearly four inches long.  It has two recessed holes for the bolts and has a number 24 on it.  The location(since right now the boat is still on the trailer) is about 2/3 up from the bottom and forward edge of the keel.  Bolts are 1" stainless steel. I replace it yearly.  This is how I received the boat.  I do not know if this is factory or modified by one of the previous owners.
My Yamaha 9.9 also has a zinc on it, but since I keep it out of the water hardly ever needs replacing.
