i am changing the old gate valve thru hull fittings on my boat and am not sure what to use for replacements. should a person use a wood block on the inside or is this overkill? are the marelon fittings suitable for replacement? i have a catalina sailboat that has the marelon fittings.

Marelon fittings are plenty tough, and do not fall prey to galvanic corrision.  Not usre on the wood blocks.
