Regarding the keel lock down pin.  I remember that the early Midship boats had a 1/2" pin. The pin was changed to 7/8" with 1" thread around the time Dawson took over and mfg. started up in Las Vegas.
The pin was never designed to be a break-away pin. That is why they went to the larger diameter pin. The pin was to be installed whenever the keel was in the fully lowered position.  It is not recomended to repair a bent pin. Once bent the pin should be replaced.  Any local machine shop should be able to turn one out on a lathe.  Use only high quality stainless steel.

Thanks for jumping in John.  That is the style pin that I was trying to describe.  I'll get a drawing made up for the group soon and post it.  

Something interesting!  In all of the advertising I've seen, there have been some drawings done showing the keel, keel cable and winch, but in none of them can I see the pin indicated.

As a result, there are several folks not able to figure out what we are talking about.  

I have the Parker Dawson 26 Swing Keel description in front of me and it shows no pin, and not even the cut-out in the front of the keel is shown.  I wonder if they deleted that?

Unforunately, the page is white print against orange and will not copy well.

I'll check Bill's files and see if there is any more info or pics regarding the keel mechanism.  I recall that the key to raising the keel was the Boston gear box and a custom cast pulley with a vaiable pitch.
It was cast out of aluminum.
